Environmental Impact of Free Trade

Liberalized trade agreements, extending more rights to transnational corporations, have been linked to increased GHG emissions attributable to industrialization and the global transportation of goods and services.

Surely it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that free trade agreements are awful for the environment?

These agreements give great power to corporations to do as they wish to make as much profit as they can. As has been clearly demonstrated (see links), this has a destructive impact, both to the environment, and to workers - both end up exploited for profit, as people lose sovereignty over their own resources.

Video by the Fair World Project, promoting fair trade, not free trade.

I find it very odd that leading environmentalist, Al Gore, along with then President Bill Clinton, signed NAFTA into law, in 1994!
