I’m confused by the forecasts of Coronavirus becoming a pandemic that will infect billions of people, given that the number of new cases is already falling in China?
Is it fear-mongering, or is it true, and due to other countries being shit at handling this kind of thing, compared to China?
I wonder how many people in the US who’re already struggling to survive, working pay-check to pay-check, will catch the virus, but then go to work anyway and spread it about, because they can’t afford not to. Capitalism is only interested in short term profit, and there’s no money to be made in preventing the spread of a virus. (Plenty of opportunity to profit off the vaccine though!).
Does our current system make it impossible to implement the necessary collective response to a crisis like this? Government too powerless, corrupt, and senseless? For starters, if there was any sense in the US, they’d immediately drop the sanctions on Iran, which are hampering their efforts to contain the virus. (...if there was any sense in the US, there would be no sanctions in the first place!).
Here is US politician, Nancy Pelosi, saying that a future vaccine for the virus must be 'affordable'. Not free, just affordable. The richest country on earth won't even give their already poverty-stricken populace a free vaccine against a deadly virus, because profit trumps sanity and humanity. Capitalism is evil.
